City Council Election Update

City Council Election Update

The election results won’t be certified until November 17, and additional ballots still need to be processed. However, at this point it appears that Dillon Hurt and I have strong enough leads that we are likely to fill the two open City Council seats.

Over the past four years, I’ve been genuinely humbled by how many of you have reached out, with ideas, concerns, questions, and thoughtful feedback. Whether you stopped me at the grocery store, sent a late-night email, invited me into your home, or simply shared a perspective online, you helped me learn and grow.

To everyone who supported me this election, by displaying a yard sign, talking with neighbors, volunteering, or offering encouragement — thank you. Your engagement is what makes public service meaningful, and I’m deeply grateful for the trust you’ve placed in me.

The election is mostly over (except for a last batch of ballots to count), but we’re not done. There is a unique opportunity coming up in January. There will be one remaining Council seat to fill in January, the position left vacant by Kevin Smith, with two years remaining in its term.

This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to serve, learn, and help shape Ivins’ future without going through a full campaign; no fundraising, no yard signs, just jump in and serve.

If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to help make city decisions, this is a friendly way to try it out. And it’s only a two-year commitment, not the full four years. Sweet!

More information about the application process will be available shortly after the results are certified on November 17. I hope many residents will consider applying, we are at our best when a wide range of voices participate.

I’ve already shared with Dillon the 250+ page Handbook for Utah Municipal Officials and details about the Utah League of Cities & Towns Essentials training in December, so he can be ready to hit the ground running in January.

I also want to acknowledge everyone who ran this year, from the primary through November. Stepping forward takes courage and commitment, and our community is better because of the ideas and energy they contributed.

Thank you to everyone who voted, volunteered, and stayed engaged. I’m grateful for your trust and partnership.
