Dreaming of a garden but short on space? Or maybe you do have room at home, but wish you had more know-how, more success, and more people to swap stories with while your zucchini takes over the world. The Ivins Community Garden might be exactly what you’re looking for.
Located at approximately 955 Red Mountain Blvd (just north of the Desert Rose subdivision and city pickleball courts, near Hwy 91), the garden offers individual plots for just $40 per year. That small fee opens the gate to fresh, homegrown produce you can feel great about — and a whole community of fellow gardeners.
One of the biggest benefits of the community garden is learning alongside others. You’ll garden next to people who have figured out what grows best in our desert climate, how to save water, when to plant, and how to turn “oops” into “next season I’m trying that again.” Tips, seeds, and success stories get shared as naturally as extra squash.
We’re also lucky to have Lorraine Sanders, our volunteer Master Gardener, who is truly a master of her craft. She’s available year-round to offer guidance and sends regular email tips to gardeners, helping everyone learn new techniques and grow new things with confidence.
Each plot has secondary water with its own tap. You can install drip irrigation or water by hand. There’s also a culinary water tap you can use with a barrel or buckets to extend your growing season into spring, fall, and even winter. Plenty of mulch is available to help with water retention and weed control.
So yes, you’ll grow vegetables. But you’ll also grow knowledge, confidence, and a little camaraderie along the way.
