Fire/EMS: What’s Next?

On June 16th, the Ivins City Council voted unanimously (one member absent) to increase the fiscal 2023 budget for Fire/EMS by up to $500,000 to fund the renovation and re-staffing of the Center Street fire station for both fire and EMS services. This will restore appropriate Fire/EMS service to most of Ivins. (Note: The 2023 fiscal year begins July 1, 2022.)

However, most of Kayenta will still be outside a 5-minute response time. But considering services will be coming from Center Street instead of Rachel Drive (across from Harmon’s), the response times will be dramatically better. So, is that good enough? No.

We took a positive step a couple of weeks ago but there’s more to do. Now we need to get the Center Street station optimally operational quickly. We need to figure out how to improve Fire/EMS services to the western and northwestern parts of Ivins. And we need to rebuild our team of Fire/EMS volunteers.
