Last night was the best and most productive exchange of information, ideas, and concerns I have ever seen between Ivins residents and the Mayor and City staff.
If you didn’t go last night you can still show up at City Hall tonight or tomorrow night at 7pm. Some people wore masks. some didn’t. I think everyone felt comfortable. The new City Hall helped – it wasn’t crowded even though almost every seat was filled.
The purpose of the meeting was to kick off a review and redo of the city’s General Plan and Land Use map. This needs a lot of public input over the next 6 – 12 month. That was the purpose – start getting us, the community, involved. Well done. That alone was “worth the price of admission.”

But it went beyond that. Residents asked a lot of questions about a lot of issues that concerned them. And the Mayor and staff answered those questions candidly. Topics ranged from water conservation to the new reservoir, the cost and timing of plumbing the entire city to get reuse water for irrigation, Hwy 91 road improvements planned for this year, new roundabouts, where the Western Corridor will be and when it will happen, solving traffic problems on one neighborhood’s streets, concerns about the loss of our Center Street Fire Station, affordable housing, speedy e-bikes in Snow Canyon State Park, questions and concerns about Black Desert Resort, Canyon Crossing, Sentierre, information about a new Ivins regional park just south of Hwy 91, and more and more.
Patty and I like movies and get addicted to some terrific Netflix series. Last night was better. Turn off the TV. It doesn’t matter where you live in Ivins, show up tonight or tomorrow night (Wednesday or Thursday) at 7pm at City Hall. It’s a really good way to spend one hour and 47 minutes (last night). Maybe longer if you have more questions.
I talked to people as they left. I think everyone felt that Mayor Chris Hart, City Manager Dale Coulam, and Public Works Director Chuck Gillette did a great job explaining issues and answering questions and concerns. They didn’t dodge anything we threw at them.
Come tonight. I’ll be there again. Wouldn’t miss it
