The Mayor says – Even When We Disagree…

“Although we don’t agree on every issue, I have come to deeply appreciate and respect Mike Scott for his commitment to Ivins and its residents as demonstrated by the effort and expertise he contributes to City Council actions and by his unwavering support of worthwhile projects and activities within our community. I wholeheartedly support Mike Scott in his campaign for re-election to the Ivins City Council.

Read why I’m running for Ivins City Council

When Mike Scott was appointed to the Planning Commission about a dozen years ago I watched him throw himself into their important work.  Devoting significant time and using his professional research & analytic expertise, he thoroughly prepared himself for their meetings always arriving with data points and other relevant information to help them make informed decisions.

When elected to the City Council four years ago he arrived with those same important attributes and an even deeper commitment.  No issue has escaped his careful review. His questions and comments are always grounded in factual information and his positions are based on what he genuinely believed is in the best interest of Ivins residents.

Mike has studied in depth and interviewed people central to the discussion on issues like water scarcity, responsible development and housing affordability to help him settle on steps he felt the City should take to solve problems. He was instrumental in creating and analyzing our successful city-wide survey and subsequently updating and revising our General Plan.

He was a key participant in developing our Arts Master Plan, creating our first ever Arts Commission and supporting our efforts to advance the Arts in Ivins.  And Mike also led the way in creating and supporting our thriving Youth City Council.

Through the years Mike has championed efforts to reasonably protect our night sky, control the proliferation of nightly rentals across the city and to create and maintain responsible budgets.  Mike is all about keeping our residents informed on critical issues by advocating and participating in various outreach efforts even to the extent of using his own online tools to spread the word.”
