Many of us in Ivins have experienced frustrating and repeated power outages in recent years. While a few may be tied to fire prevention or extreme weather, others seem unrelated, and the frequency has raised growing concerns.
This morning, I reached out directly to the Utah Public Service Commission to ask for help. I requested: (1) A clear, data-driven explanation of the cause of these outages; (2) Information on past and planned infrastructure investments in Ivins; (3) An assessment of whether Rocky Mountain Power is meeting reliability standards in our area; (4) And most importantly, what can be done to improve service going forward.
Within just a few hours, Commissioner John Harvey phoned me and then followed up with an official email to Rocky Mountain Power. He stated that my requests are legitimate, and the Commission has now formally told RMP to provide the requested information directly to me and to the Commission within 30 days.
Huge thanks to Commissioner Harvey and the Utah Public Service Commission for taking this seriously and moving quickly. I’ll keep you updated as soon as we get more information from Rocky Mountain Power.
