Here’s Virgin River water flowing over the Quail Creek diversion dam when I was there yesterday. All the water you see is heading to Lake Mead. We don’t use any of it. There is a 66-inch-wide pipeline just before the dam that captures all the water it can and sends it to Sand Hollow or Quail Creek reservoirs.
What it can’t capture just spills over the dam. That’s what you see here. WCWCD has plans to create a new Warner Valley Reservoir. If that happens, there will be a second pipeline that would capture some of this overflow.
