Highway 91 Open House

There is an open house on Wednesday, February 1st at 5:30pm at City Hall to present the plans and timing for the improvements on Highway 91 and answer questions. Construction will start within a couple of weeks. Here’s some information about the improvements. Come to the open house next Wednesday to get more details.

A number of intersections lack adequate right-hand or left-hand turn lanes.  That causes traffic to back up and/or slow down when drivers turn onto these side streets.  It also makes it difficult for drivers turning onto highway 91 when there’s a lot of traffic on the highway.

The other major issue with the highway is the lack of paved shoulders and bike/pedestrian facilities.  The construction improvements will include multi-use paths/lanes for bikes and pedestrians.

Finally, there have been multiple bicycle-automobile accidents, two of which in the past 15 years have been fatal. By providing safe bicycle lanes and a shared use pedestrian/bike paths/lanes, the safety for cyclists will be much improved.

Several of the intersecting streets, 200 East, Main Street, and 200 West, will be realigned to intersect with the highway at a right angle.  These same locations will also receive left hand turn lanes and deceleration lanes.

Two intersecting streets, 600 West and 400 West, will have a roundabout installed.
