What Is Our Vision For Ivins?

Mayor Hart launched the “Let’s Plan Ivins Future Together” campaign in the October Ivins City Newsletter (download). The campaign is designed to get a lot of input from all Ivins residents about our collective vision for the city and what goals we want to achieve.

We have a vision and goals in our current General Plan, but it was last updated in 2015. The General Plan is a vision about how a community will grow, reflecting community priorities and values while shaping the future. So it needs to be based on community input.

It’s time to review the vision and goals to see if anything needs to be added, deleted, or modified. So, the campaign starts with a series of Town Hall Meetings to informally discuss our vision for the future and subsequently talk about possible revisions to the details of our current General Plan.

The General Plan is 41 pages, but the vision statement and fifteen goals with supporting strategies to achieve them are just six pages (pages 11 – 17). So please download the current Plan and review the vision, goals, and objectives to see what changes you believe we need to make to the Plan. (Download here) Share your ideas at the Town Hall meetings and by emailing members of the Planning Commission and City Council.

The Mayor noted that some residents are concerned that the City may not have followed the General Plan’s vision and goals as well as we should have so this is our opportunity as a community to work together to clarify that vision to better direct our discussions and decisions in the future.

As Mayor Hart said in the newsletter, “We deeply desire to hear from a wide cross section of our residents so please, please, please come to one or more of these meetings regardless of where you live in the city, how long you’ve lived here or plan to stay, your age or your family make up. We want to hear from all of you.”

The Mayor is correct. We need your help. Socrates said, “By far the greatest and most admirable form of wisdom is that needed to plan and beautify cities and human communities.” All we need is the wisdom. I believe that Individually we are smart, but together, as a community, we are brilliant.
